Who’s with me for a polio free Islamabad?: CDA chairman

The Capital Development Authority (CDA) and its partner organisations could eradicate polio completely from the federal capital, said CDA Chairman Syed Tahir Shahbaz on Friday while presiding over a meeting of the District Polio Committee at the CDA Headquarters.

The authority has taking effective measures for polio eradication by utilizing all available resources. The chairman directed the Human Resource Directorate and CapitalHospital to ensure that paramedic staff and manpower were supplied for a successful anti-polio campaign which would achieve 100 percent polio drops administration in the city.

Islamabad was a high risk city in terms of public health issues since there were many urban slum areas where people living in poor socio-economic conditions were vulnerable to infection. Shahbaz added that these regions would be targeted during the polio campaigns.

He said that the past campaign’s results needed to be improved further, adding that it was encouraging that Islamabad had maintained its Polio Free Status since 2008.

Further, Health Services Director Dr. Hassan Urooj briefed the meeting about the upcoming Polio Campaign’s arrangements.

The meeting was attended by representatives from the Islamabad Traffic Police, ICT Administration, Rawalpindi Health Department Rawalpindi, FederalGovernmentServicesHospital (Polyclinic), CapitalHospital, United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), World Health Organization (WHO), Private Educational Institutions Regulatory Authority (PEIRA) and other stakeholders. They assured their full cooperation during the polio campaign.
