The Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhary on Saturday administered justice by acting against the torture of a CNG station employee and by deciding the insurance claims of a widow.

Jhang resident Muhammad Imran stated in his application to the Supreme Court (SC) that he worked at a CNG station where he had asked some police officers to wait for their turn for filling CNG in their car, to which they had responded by illegally detaining and torturing him.

The CJP sought a report from the Punjab Provincial Police Officer (PPO) in this regard, who complied and admitted in his report that the allegations were correct. In lieu of this, the Faisalabad Regional Police Officer (RPO) punished the delinquent police officials accordingly.

In the second case, Chaudhary took notice of Darya Khatoon Khoso’s application registered through the SC’s Human Rights Cell.

In her application, the Jacobabad resident said that she had applied for the recovery of her late husband’s group insurance, who had retired from the Education Department. The relevant documents were submitted before the Jacobabad District Commissioner (DC) for his approval, but she claimed that he intentionally withheld the processing of her application.

Darya Khoso beseeched the SC to redress her grievances, in response to which the CJP sought a report from the concerned DC within a fortnight.

The DC submitted his report accordingly, saying that the group insurance claim had been disposed in favour of the applicant and all relevant papers had been delivered.
