In wake of the recent defeat in general elections, Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) has decided to shuffle its leadership in Punjab and will place Nadeem Afzal Gondal and Qamar Zaman Kaira at the helm of affairs to repair damages, setting aside other senior leaders, Pakistan Today has learnt reliably.
The top leadership of PPP has taken the party’s landslide defeat in Punjab seriously, following which a number of measures have been under review including shuffling the provincial party leadership.
The top party leaders have decided to give a chance to young leadership of the party such as Nadeem Afzal Gondal and Qamar Zaman Kaira while the old stalwarts would be asked to take the backseat.
Sources told Pakistan Today that former Public Accounts Committee (PAC) chairman Nadeem Afzal Gondal’s name is being reviewed for two positions, PPP Punjab president and secretary information.
Gondal is most likely to accept the position of secretary information of whereas Kaira, who is the secretary information, could be given responsibility to lead the party in the province in an attempt to re-organise it.
No role is expected for two former premiers and the party’s top leaders including Raja Pervez Ashraf and Yousuf Raza Gilani, with the party reflecting dissatisfaction over their performance.
