The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has failed to ensure water supply both through pipelines or even water tankers to the residents across the Capital.
The residents of “I” series sectors are facing acute water shortage for last few weeks but CDA’s Water Management Wing gives a deaf ear to the increasing complaints by the residents.
“With the increasing temperature, the demand of water rises manifolds but the residents are provided water supply for a few minutes in 24 hours forcing them to adopt alternate arrangements,” Ejazul Haq, a resident in I-10/2 sector informed this agency.
Similarly, due to poor and inefficient water tankers service, the consumers hardly get water supply, he added.
Another resident, Sajjad Hussain, alleged that the water tanker service officials were supplying water to the areas housing VVIPs.
He pointed out that last year, a number of families had to shift to their relatives in Rawalpindi and suburbs due to water shortage but the civic body’s role is confined to mere lip service despite putting huge funds for improvement of water tanker service and other measures to ensures in this regard.
A few residents whose houses are located at elevated surfaces are now looking for other options including drilling well in their house against heavy cost.
When contacted, an official of the CDA said that in view of prolonged power outages, the authority has decided to use generators to operate tube-wells to overcome water shortage in the metropolis.
He said the CDA chairman had also directed the Water Management Wing to resolve the issue of water shortage in view of the sharp increase in water complaints in ‘I’ and ‘G’ sectors.
The CDA chairman had also directed the Members Engineering to hire the services of private water tankers in addition to the authority’s own fleet but any considerable improvement in water supply situation is yet awaited.
