Doctors who performed the surgery on his right shoulder say he will have to remain in the hospital for two days. Shah Rukh Khan underwent a shoulder surgery at Bandra’s Lilavati hospital on Tuesday. The actor, who was suffering from a tear in the rotator cuff muscles in his right shoulder, was operated upon by orthopedic surgeon Dr Sanjay Desai. The actor was wheeled into the operation theatre at 2pm and the surgery was completed at around 3.30pm. “We were managing his injury with medicines since the past three months as he had to finish shooting for Chennai Express,” said Dr Desai who had conducted the same surgery on the actor’s left shoulder in 2009. The procedure is carried out by inserting an anthroscope- a type of endoscope into the joint through a small incision. “He will remain in the hospital for two more days and even after that, he will have to keep his arm in a pouch and sling for at least six weeks. Then he will have to begin the exercises required for his complete recovery,” said Dr Desai. SRK is known to have all his injuries on his left side except for this shoulder injury and an injury to his big toe while shooting for My Name is Khan. While SRK has always flown abroad for his medical procedures, he preferred to get his shoulders operated here “The surgeries are termed as anthroscopic surgeries and most people prefer flying abroad for these procedures. I am glad that Shah Rukh kept his faith in Indian doctors for this,” said Dr Desai. Shah Rukh’s son Aryan came down a couple of days ago to be with his father during the surgery.
