Scorching heat would grip the country from Friday to Sunday with significant rise in temperatures, increasing the snow melting process, said an official of the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD).
The day temperatures will rise across the country, especially in plain areas.
The snow melting process will be increased in the next four to five days which help fill the water reservoirs too, the official said.
About the synoptic situation, the official said a seasonal low lies over Balochistan and its adjoining areas. A shallow westerly wave, prevailing over Kashmir and its adjoining hilly areas, will subside from Thursday causing hot and dry weather, he added.
The hot and dry weather will prevail in Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Sindh, Balochistan, Kashmir and Gilgit- Baltistan from Friday onward.
The official said the isolated rain activity during the current month was the result of western disturbance and the monsoon period would start when that disturbance will be subsided by eastern one.
According to the climatology of Pakistan, the official said, pre-monsoon period was likely to start in last ten days of June while the regular monsoon period would begin in the first week of July.
The maximum temperatures recorded during the last 24 hours were Islamabad (37 C), Lahore (40 C), Karachi (34 C), Quetta (35 C), Skardu (24 C), Murree (26 C), Muzaffarabad (35 C), Faisalabad (40 C), Multan (40 C) and Hyderabad (41 C).
The highest maximum temperatures recorded during the last 24 hours were Daddu (46 C), Shaheed Benazirabad (44 C), Larkana, Sukkur and Rahim Yar Khan (43 C).
