Ghee, cooking oil production increases 3.91%, 14.75%

Vegetable ghee and cooking oil production in the country during the last nine months of the current financial year posted 3.91 percent and 14.75 percent increase, respectively as compared to the production in the same period of last year. During the period from July-March 2012-13, 844,990 tonnes of vegetable ghee was produced in the country to fulfill domestic requirements as well as export orders, according to data of Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS). On a month-on-month (MoM) basis, vegetable ghee production in the country witnessed an increase of 1.2 percent in March 2013 as compared to its production during the same month of last year, it added. In March, 2013 about 91,897 tonnes of vegetable ghee was produced as compared to 82,702 tonnes produced in the same month last year. Meanwhile, cooking oil production during the last nine months was recorded at 266,842 tonnes as against 232,538 tonnes produced during the same period of last year, the data revealed. However, cooking oil production on a MoM basis decreased by 1.83 percent and was recorded at 28,304 tonnes in March 2013 as compared to 31,919 tonnes in the same month of last year. From July-March 2012-13, 69,982 tonnes of blended tea was produced which was up by 18.99 percent compared to the 58,815 tonnes produced in the same period last year, while wheat and grain milling posted 7 percent increase during the period under review. In the last ten months 4.258 million tonnes of wheat and grain millings were manufactured as compared to 3.979 million tonnes in the same period last year.
