The electricity supply situation improved somewhat in a few areas of urban Punjab and Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) after riots and protests against prolonged power outages the other day.
However, sources from National Transmission Dispatch Company (NTDC) said a 5,000 MW shortfall still exists in the country.
In Lahore, load shedding has been reduced to 12 hours from 18 hours per day but other cities in Punjab continue suffering power outages of 15 hours a day. Citizens have appreciated the reduction in electricity load shedding but demanded complete relief.
In Balochistan, power is being supplied for only 2 hours per day making lives of people miserable. In protest, national avenues have been blocked on the appeal of Zaimeendar action committee, and long queues of vehicles could be seen on roads leading towards Quetta, Zhob, Loralai, and Ziarat.
In Punjab, business activities have been affected severely due to 16 hours of electricity load shedding in urban cities of Multan, Faisalabad, Jhang, Bahawalpur and Gujranwala, and 18 hours in rural areas.
Load shedding could not be reduced in Sindh and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) however.
