Inter-Provincial Coordination Senate Standing Committee Chairman Farah Aqil on Wednesday emphasised the need to upgrade and maintain sports facilities at the Islamabad Sports Complex in a meeting with Admiral (r) Ahmed Tasneem at her office.

Ahmed Tasneem told the senator that the sports facilities at the complex should not be mismanaged, adding that that various facilities had not been upgraded, despite large sums of money allocated by the government for this purpose.

For example, the astro turf, found rarely in Pakistan, was being misused which could cause its deterioration. He also spoke about the bad condition of the washrooms in the sports complex. He told Aqil that the complex’s swimming pool was also in poor condition.

Tasneem held that a sports committee should be formed which included senior citizens and other stakeholders to improve the Islamabad sports complex’s state, adding that more sports facilities needed to be introduced along with effective maintenance and upgrading of previous facilities.

The senator assured the admiral that she would personally ensure that the relevant authorities resolved the matter.
