The Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) has requested the Supreme Court (SC) to initiate proceedings against Hanif Abbasi, Ali Moosa Gilani, Makhdoom Shahabuddin and other five accused in ephedrine quota case.
Hanif Abbasi is a former PML-N MNA, Moosa Gilani is the son of former prime minister Yousaf Raza Gilani and Shahabuddin is former state minister.
A two-member bench, headed by Justice Jawwad S Khawaja, took up the ephedrine quota case for hearing on Wednesday.
The accused, including Iftikhar Ahmad Babar, Sheikh Ansar, Nadim Zafar, Hanif Abbasi, Nasir Khan and others and their counsels appeared in the court.
Akbar Qureshi, on behalf of Dr Khalid Ranjha, told the court that the latter could not reach Islamabad due to lack of flight. He requested the court to adjourn the hearing.
Counsel for the ANF told the court three FIRs had been registered so far and two accused have been named in one FIR and the remaining 11 accused have been named in other FIRs. Some accused have been granted bail before arrest while some have been granted bail after arrest. ANF has filed appeals against grant of bail to these accused.
The court remarked that hearing of the case was being adjourned until June 5 as a senior lawyer has filed application seeking adjournment.
The court also directed the five accused including Nasir Khan, Ghazanfar Ali, Mohsin Khurshid and Seraj Ahmad to hire lawyers so that they could face no difficulty during the hearing of the case.
