The Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) on Wednesday decided to launch an operation against illegal water filtration plants in the city.
According to WASA officials, prior permission from the agency and a Rs 100,000 non-refundable security fee were mandatory installing a water filtration plant. They said that around 15 filtration plants were running without fulfilling these conditions, adding that some people were also selling filtered water commercially without paying monthly dues to WASA.
WASA said that the owners of these illegal filtration plants might be fined and their plants shut down.
Meanwhile, residents said that WASA had failed to supply potable water to the city and was not planning on worsening the situation by blocking clean water supply by private filtration plants. They said that the operation should focus only on recovering dues, and should not cut the private plant’s connection.
