The district government on Wednesday announced that the women’s jail construction project near Adiala Central Jail had been postponed.
According to sources, the locals have refused to sell their land for the jail, frustrating the district administration’s efforts to acquire the land.
Jail Superintendent Mushtaq Awan said that the construction of the new block for high risk prisoners was in its last stages; the exterior was complete and the interior would be finished in one and a half months.
Awan said that under the project, arrangements for the inmates to live with their families in the jail were underway. The prisoners could avail this facility as soon as the family quarters’ construction was completed.
