Former Pakistan captain Wasim Bari has declared that cricket should be played on the grounds and not in the courts. He was addressing a press conference here Wednesday, and he emphasized that the litigation has sent a negative image of Pakistan cricket across the world.
“As it is Pakistan cricket is going through an exceptionally difficult phase owing to security concerns due to which no foreign team is willing to set foot in this country. This litigation has further damaged Pakistan cricket and the PCB’s credibility when it needs it the most”, said Wasim Bari.
And all this, according to Wasim Bari, is the handiwork of the disgruntled elements from the regions.
“These people have already enjoyed two stints as regional representatives and were not qualified for another term. “It’s all being orchestrated by the former regional presidents – Malik Zulfiqar (Sialkot Region), Khawaja Nadeem (Lahore Region), Amir Nawab (Abbotabad Region), Ch. Anwar (Faisalabad Region). They have all completed their two tenures as regional presidents and according to the constitution not allowed to contest for a third term. That being the situation, they have come down to blackmailing the PCB”, said Bari.
Wasim Bari also informed that Major (Retd) Ahmed Nadeem Sadal is not associated with the PCB in any capacity, for he is neither a part of regional nor the associations’ setup.
The PCB, said Wasim Bari, made the interim committee so that the elections could be held. But now that these elements cannot contest for the third term, they are creating a rumpus. “Cricket should be played on the grounds and not in the courts. It has sent a very negative image about the PCB and Pakistan cricket across the world. In these difficult times this makes things all the more difficult for the Board”, he concluded.
