WHO seeks religious influence for polio eradication in Pakistan

The World Health Organisation (WHO) has appealed to the country’s religious scholars for their cooperation and support for a successful operation of polio eradication campaign in Pakistan.

WHO appealed to the religious leaders to stop deadly attacks on polio eradication staff, as the assailants almost always claim to be linked with extremist organisations.

The officials have been in contact with the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government in this regard, and in response the KP government has asked senior religious personalities to play their part in the elimination of polio from the country by using their influence.

The WHO officials expressed concerns over the campaigners’ security working in the area.
