Supreme Court of Pakistan on Tuesday declared null and void the appointment of National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Chairman Admiral (r) Fasih Bokhari who was appointed last year.
A five-member bench headed by Justice Tasadduq Hussain Jilani in its short order declared that the appointment of Chairman NAB was not made in proper consultations with the then leader of the opposition in the National Assembly which was violation of the constitution. The court has ordered the federal government to appoint new Chairman NAB in line with the constitution.
The petition was filed by former opposition leader Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan who took the plea that no consultation was made with him regarding appointment of Chairman NAB which was mandatory under the constitution. He had pleaded that the President has no discretionary power to appoint.
