Exports of fish and fish preparations increased by 4.46 percent during the first 10 months of the current fiscal year against the corresponding period of last year. The overall exports of fish and fish preparations were recorded at $270.301 million during July-April (2012-13) against the exports of $258.766 million during July-April (2011-12), according to the latest data of Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS). During the period under review, as much as 124,141 metric tons of fish and fish preparation were exported against the exports of 105,366 metric tons last year, showing increase of 17.82 percent. Meanwhile, On year-on-year basis, the seafood exports increased by 5.22 percent in April 2013 when compared to the exports of April 2012. The fish exports during April 2013 stood at $38.042 million against the exports of $36.155 million in April 2012, the PBS data revealed. On month-on-month basis, the exports of fish increased by 17.16 percent by going up from $32.470 million in March 2013 to $38.042 million in April 2013. The overall food exports from the country increased by 12.27 percent during the period under review by going up from $3.521 billion last year to $3.953 billion in current year. In April 2013, the food exports increased by 20.33 percent on year-on-year basis and by 0.96 percent on month-on-month basis, according to the PBS data. The total food and non-food exports from the country increased from $19.329 billion in July-April (2011-12) to US$ 20.147 billion during July-April (2012-13).
