A petition has been filed in the Supreme Court against peace talks with the Taliban, asking why the armed forces were being forced to carry the white flag.

The petitioner, Shahid Orakzai, said as victory against militancy was close by, what was the objective to fly the national flag at half mast.

The application said in reality, the peace talks were aimed at accepting the religious and moral superiority of the Taliban.

The petitioner said the caretaker government was silent and so was the case with the supreme commander at Aiwan-e-Sadr about talks with the Taliban and in such a situation, only the apex court could take the armed forces out of the difficult situation.

The application drew the attention of the Supreme Court towards Article 190 of the constitution according to which all institutions of Pakistan were bound to assist the Supreme Court.

It said the Supreme Court was similarly required to help the armed forces immediately.

The petitioner made the chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee and ISI director general party to the case.

He also requested the Supreme Court to seek report from the ISI DG about people who were in contact with the Taliban.
