The Supreme Court (SC) has remarked that people were dying owing to power outages across the country, but the government functionaries did not bother to even hold a meeting on the crucial issue.
A three-member bench of SC headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry took up for hearing the Nandi Pur Power Plant case on Tuesday.
The CJP remarked, “The cost of power plant has risen to Rs 57 billion from Rs 23 billion which is the worst example of negligence and lack of interest. The file was kept shelved for four years but the file of any work wherein personal interest is involved is set in motion forthwith.”
Addressing the additional finance secretary, Justice Ejaz Chaudhry said people were dying due to load shedding and “the finance secretary and secretary for water and power did not bother to hold meeting among them. People like you should go to jail”.
The hearing of the case was adjourned for 10 days.
