NEPRA hikes tariff by 80 paisa per unit

The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) on Tuesday approved an increase in electricity tariff by 75 paisa per unit for all distribution companies of WAPDA.

The decision was made on account of monthly fuel price adjustment.

After new hike in prices, customers would pay Rs 16.48 per unit of electricity.

The tariff adjustments will not apply to lifeline consumers using less than 50 units a month and the consumers of Karachi Electric Supply Company.

Under the monthly fuel adjustment mechanism, NEPRA is required to pass on the impact of variation in cost of power generation arising out of market based changes in the fuel prices, including the cost of fuel mix.

According to officials, 80 percent of fuel used to produce electricity was on furnace oil that caused increase in its price.
