Measles feeds on 10 more

There appears to be no end to measles as ten more children died in the city on Monday. The Punjab government’s efforts to curtail the epidemic in the province are persistently proving to be ineffective as the measles marginal toll is rising with each passing day.
The death toll in the city has reached 65 while the epidemic has crossed its century in the province; 120. Over 14,000 children have been affected from the disease and are under treatment in government hospitals across Punjab.
The children who breathed their last in different hospitals of the city include 10-month-old Ata, seven-month-old Sufyan, 11-month-old Fizza, 10-month-old Shoaib and one-year-old Muskaan.
While the health officials say that much of the patients died owing to a delay in treatment, the vaccination of children remains pertinent in curtailing the epidemic which is continuing to affect children who had not been immunised.
