DSP among five killed in IED attack

Deputy superintendent of police in Shangla district was killed on Monday along with four others in an improvised explosive device (IED) attack.

Reports from Shangla district reveal that DSP Khan Bahadar was on routine patrol in the area when his vehicle was targeted with an IED planted by unknown militants. The explosion was so severe that the vehicle was blasted to smithereens and all five people on board were killed on the spot.

Officials said that besides Khan Bahadar, other victims of the IED attack included his driver, one cook and two bodyguards. So far no one claimed responsibility for the attack but officials believe that Taliban militants were involved in the attack.

One day ago, a police constable was shot dead by unknown miscreants in Shangla district. Adjacent to Swat, Buner, Mansehra and Kohistan district, violent acts have been taking place from time to time in Shangla district since 2009 until armed forces conducted full military operation against banned Tehrik-e-Taliban (TTP) Swat chapter headed by Maulana Fazal Ullah.

Fazal Ullah, along with Maulvi Faqir Mohammad and other leading commanders, are believed to be in the border area of Kunar from where they launch deadly attacks against security forces, pro-government tribal elders and members and volunteers of peace committees.
