President likely to summon first NA session by June 1

President Asif Ali Zardari is likely to summon the first formal meeting of the National Assembly by June 1, sources said on Monday.

According to details, it has been decided that the first-ever formal sitting of the recently-elected National Assembly be summoned by June 1, for which the Law Ministry has moved a summery to the Presidency for final approval.

On the first day of the National Assembly sitting, Deputy Speaker Dr Fehmida Mirza would administer oath to the newly-elected members of the National Assembly.

She will also administer her own oath and will be the first-ever speaker of the National Assembly for earning the honour.

The sources said on the second day of the same session, nominations papers for the positions of the speaker and deputy speaker would be filed, after which on June 3, the National Assembly’s new speaker and the deputy speaker would be elected.

The sources claimed that Dr Tariq Fazal Chaudhry was name that the PML-N was considering for the position of the NA speaker whereas a female is likely to be deputy speaker.

On June 4, the nomination papers for the coming premier would be filed, whereas the newly-elected House would chose the new prime minister by June 5.

For the premiership, the PML-N would bring forth party chief Nawaz Sharif.

The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s Javed Hasmi would contest against Nawaz.

It is likely that the PPP would support the PML-N candidates for the speaker, deputy speaker and the prime minister, acting as a ‘friendly opposition’.
