Power shortfall across the country has reached 5,500 megawatts with Punjab witnessing 20 hours load shedding.
National Transmission and Despatch Company officials said that electricity production was 10,500 megawatts against demand of 16000 megawatts.
Prolonged power outages in Punjab have left people without water as the National Power Control Centre failed to curb load shedding.
LESCO chief Muhammad Saleem told a private TV channel that power shortfall reached 2,700MW as electricity demand had exceeded record 4,500MW while supply stood at 1800MW.

He claimed that ‘forced’ load shedding could be overcome if the National Power Control Centre stopped its meddling.
He appealed to the people to reduce consumption of electricity.
According to sources in the NTDC, more than 11 power houses were not functioning due to non-supply of oil, gas and water.
Separately, power supply to most of the cities and towns of upper Sindh, Balochistan and some parts of Punjab was disrupted on Sunday due to tripping of all units of the Guddu Thermal Power Station.
According to reports, at about 8:10am power supply to Sukkur, Rohri, Pannu Aqil, Ghotki, Mirpur Mathelo, along with whole Balochistan and some parts of Punjab was disrupted after the power station broke down.
At different control rooms of the power station, officials expressed ignorance about the nature of the massive fault and said that all senior staff is busy in rectifying the situation.
Talking to a newspaper, Resident Engineer Arshad Arain blamed overloading for the tripping of all the units.
This is the second time the power station has broken down this week. A major fault developed in power station on Thursday due to which all 13 units of the station tripped.
