Beggars at various crossings, traffic signals and bazaars of the city continued with their activities despite the mounting heat.
Undeterred by the blazing sun, women and children sought alms from people on the roads which have grown unbearably hot. Some motorists said that the district government should take steps to stop women from begging with their children in their arms if it could not remove the beggars from the streets or work for their rehabilitation.
Concerned citizens said, “The Child Protection and Welfare Bureau (CPWB) is responsible for the begging children but it is ineffective as a large number of children and women with infants are seen begging everyday. We are calling for an end to this.”
