Sethi’s sparrow may be flying to Washington

Caretaker Punjab Chief Minister Najam Sethi may be appointed as Pakistan’s ambassador to United States in Sherry Rehman’s stead.

Known for his shrewd journalist’s insight, sources revealed that Sethi also has good ties with US officials and power circles, in addition to being in Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N)’s good books. Sherry Rehman, the former US ambassador, resigned following the PML-N’s electoral victory.

Najam Sethi, who has often referred to his analysis as a “chirrya” or sparrow, has emerged as a strong contender for the US envoy position, an important and tricky ambassadorship to manage.

Other contenders include Tariq Fatemi, who has assisted the PML-N on international affairs in the past.
