The citizens on Saturday demanded the authorities to devise a comprehensive plan to solve traffic congestion in the city.

Citizens said that Benazir BhuttoRoad, Tench Bhatta and 22 Number Chungi were key areas suffering from bad traffic management. “Traffic jams on Moti Bazaar Road have destroyed our business as customers, especially females, do not come to markets,” said shopkeeper Farman Ali.

Encroachments by motorcycle showrooms on Circular Road were also a severe problem, while the lack of traffic signals in Raja Bazaar and other important crossings was also worrisome. Further, motorists said that several traffic wardens also did not perform their duties properly. “Driving on Murree Road is enough to test the nerves of commuters. Daily, we face intense traffic, particularly during peak hours” said Atif.

Moreover, the Committee Chowk underpass, Chandni Chowk and the Murree Road flyovers were severely congested due to wrong parking and other traffic rule violations. The citizens urged the authorities to crackdown on traffic rules violatins, particularly on Benazir Bhutto Road (Murree Road). Commuters faced major traffic problems on this road, especially between Mareer Chowk and CentralHospital.

One motorist underlined the need for collective efforts for traffic management, and called for strict adherence to rules. He said that City Traffic Officers and wardens should evolve a comprehensive strategy to meet the present challenges and drivers should be guided regularly about traffic rules.
