PTI Central Information Secretary Dr Shireen Mazari on Friday strongly objected to the caretaker government’s attempts to effectively impose a mini-budget on the people of Pakistan, through GST, excise duties, raised electricity charges and so on, saying all indirect taxes aimed at burdening the common citizen even further.
She said the PTI categorically rejected this attempt by the caretakers as it was not within their mandate, especially when elections had been held and parliament was about to meet. “It will be the job of the new government to assess taxes, GST issues etc and the caretakers have no legal right to hamstring a new government before it has been sworn into office.”
Mazari called on the president to also desist from signing any such ordinance which sought to impose a covert mini-budget just before the newly-elected government took over.
“The PTI does not accept such actions and will raise its voice in parliament if such measures are imposed by the caretakers through any presidential ordinance,” she said.
