The Pakistan Museum of Natural History (PMNH) on Thursday became part of the World Museums Society by joining the International Council of Museum (ICOM) as an institutional member.
ICOM has broader network of 20,000 museums, 30,000 experts in various fields and 171 active national committees around the world.
PMNH Director Dr Muhammad Rafique said the PMNH had received institutional membership cards which would facilitate the Pakistani scientists in many ways.
“Now we will be able to enter museums around the world either free of charge or at discounted rate and sometimes will have a privileged access to their permanent collections or temporary exhibitions,” he added.
Dr Rafique said it would enable the scientists to enjoy discounts at museum shops and some publishing houses, adding, “We will be able to enjoy beneficial rates to many events organized by ICOM partners.”
