Several government flats and houses in various neglected sectors of the federal capital are in poor conditions, which need proper renovations.
Government employees residing in the capital are facing numerous problems because the walls of flats are run down and most flats do not have ceiling.
As the CDA was reluctant to renovate the flats, their condition had deteriorated with each passing day.
Residents appealed to the authorities concerned repeatedly for renovation of the flats, but to no avail. These flats and houses were generally located in the old sectors of Islamabad such as in sectors F/6, G/6, G/7, G/9 and G/11. A large number of government employees resided in these flats, while some had rented these out.
“We are living under a great threat as our flats could cave in at anytime,” said Tahir Mehmood a resident of F-6. He said these flats needed proper renovation every year.
When contacted, a CDA official said that lack of funds had halted the civic body from initiating any extra project and renovation work.
