The Supreme Court on Friday served contempt of court notices to former Establishment secretary Taimur Azmat Osman and former principal secretary to the prime minister Seerat Asghar in a case regarding the appointments by the caretaker government and sought a reply from Prime Minister Mir Hazar Khan Khoso in this regard.
A three-judge bench headed by Justice Jawwad S Khawaja resumed hearing in a case regarding the illegal appointments and postings by caretaker Prime Minister Mir Hazar Khan Khoso, in clear violation of the Supreme Court’s orders.
The bench served contempt of court notices to the bureaucrats who were serving at key positions when transfers and postings took place in different ministries and departments.
During the course of the proceedings, petitioners barrister Naghmi and barrister Inayat Elahi said that the government did not have the mandate to transfer bureaucrats as their only major task was to conduct elections.
They stated that it was not the prime minister who took the decision as it was the bureaucracy that was solely responsible for violating orders of the Supreme Court.
Justice Jawwad S Khawaja said that whoever was found breaching the court’s orders would be taken to task and dealt with accordingly.
Arif Chaudhry told the court that he would be the counsel for the prime minister during the proceedings.
He also sought some time from the court to go through all the details of transfers and postings made which were allegedly illegal.
The court, in its orders, served contempt of court notices to Taimur Azmat Osman and Seerat Asghar under Section 3 of the Contempt of Court Act while directing them to submit their replies on the issue through their counsels. Later, the court adjourned the case till June 6.
