Balochistan’s Guddu power plant breaks down, 47 grid stations without power

As many as 20 districts of Balochistan, including its capital, plunged into darkness late Thursday night after a technical glitch in Guddu thermal power plant left the grid short of 1300MW of electricity.

However, the power supply to the provincial capital was restored after an hour of the disruption.

According to the sources of Ministry of Power and Water, a technical glitch resulted in break down of Guddu power plant’s production that created a shortage of 1300MW.

According to sources of Quetta Electric Supply Company (QESCO), the transmission line between Guddu and Uch tripped, suspending the power supply to 47 grid stations.

As many as 20 districts of the province including Mastung, Kalat, Khuzdar, Noshki, Pishin, Qila Abdullah, Qila Saifullah and Chaman plunged into darkness. Efforts to restore the power supply are underway.
