On the advice of the prime minister, President Asif Ali Zardari on Thursday approved and signed the regulation for the ‘Establishment of FATA University’ in Kohat to promote quality education and provide opportunities to the youth of the area.
Spokesperson to the President Senator Farhatullah Babar said the former prime minister during a meeting with MNAs from FATA on January 16, 2009 had announced the establishment of a university of international standards in FATA.
He said under Article 247 of the constitution, no act of parliament shall apply to the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) or any part thereof unless the president so directs. The president may with respect to any matter, make regulations for the peace and good governance of FATA or any part thereof.
The summary states that the Ministry of States and Frontier Regions (SAFRON), after getting the approval of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa governor, obtaining the views of Higher Education Commission and the Law and Justice Division submitted the summary to the prime minister for onward approval of the president.
