Stating that strengthening the cross-LoC trade would be one of the agendas during fresh dialogue with the new Pakistani government, Indian-held Kashmir Governor NN Vohra said that the further expansion of trade between the two divided parts of pre-1947 Jammu and Kashmir was necessary. The governor, according to a local news gathering agency KNS, advocated the increase in the number of items being allowed in trans-LoC trade. “This is very important trade and needs to be strengthened,” Vohra, according to KNS, told representatives of Salamabad-Chakoti Trade Union during a meeting on Monday. The traders’ delegation led by the president of the union, Muhammad Tariq Khan complained against ‘impediments’ being put by some Custom Officials in the cross-LoC trade. “We told Governor about the undue and unwarranted interferences by some customs officials, who create hurdles in smooth functioning of the trade,” General Secretary of the Union, Hilal Ahmad Turki told KNS after the meeting, which lasted for nearly an hour.
