Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chief minister-designate, Pervez Khan Khattak, on Wednesday said he was well aware of the people’s concerns regarding load shedding in the province and would to take up the issue with federal government to formulate a concrete national strategy for tackling the issue on war footing.
“Soon after assuming power, our first priority would be to take up the issue of load shedding with federal government to adopt a national strategy, as that came under the domain of the Centre,” he said following a meeting with PESCO authorities.
“Load shedding is one of the major problem the country is currently facing and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf government will approach the federal government to formulate a plan to revive industries and increase output from agriculture sectors,” Khattak said.
He directed PESCO authorities to give emergency priority to repair and replacement of damaged electric transformers in areas where consumers were regularly paying electricity bills.
Khattak said no negligence on part of government officials would be tolerated in this regard.
He said the government would clear all outstanding dues of closed tube wells to make them operational with an objective to provide clean drinking water to the people in remote and far flung areas, besides rejuvenate agriculture sector for benefit of the people of rural areas.
He said the issue of closed tube wells would be taken up with concerned departments soon after formation of PTI government.
He said the government would provide maximum relief to the people in the budget, adding the budget 2013 would be pro-poor and people friendly.
He said his government would take comprehensive measures for protection of low laying areas from floods in monsoon season and focus on construction of flood protection walls to protect the people of Charssada, Nowshera and Peshawar from future threats of floods.
Asked about KabulRiver flooding and erosion threats to Nowshera, Khattak said a master plan had been prepared during his tenure as the KP irrigation minister and would be implemented with financial assistance of donors.
He said the KP government had limited resources and sought the help of international donors for pavement of embankments along River Kabul to protect fertile agriculture land and ward off the possibility of flood threats to the people of Nowshera.
He said the PTI would focus on good governance and have zero tolerance against corruption and injustice in the society.
