The police on Tuesday launched a bloody operation after dacoits held officials and customers of a private bank hostage for over four hours. Two dacoits and one police official were killed in the exchange.
According to details, four dacoits broke into a private bank in Lalian at Sargodha-Faisalabad Road and held bank employees and customers hostage for over four hours.
The police rushed to the scene as nearby shop owners informed them about the robbery.
When the dacoits were asked to surrender peacefully, they opened fire at the police, injuring DSP Chaudhry Muhammad Nawaz who later succumbed to his injuries.
The police launched an operation to free the hostages during which intense exchange of fire was seen in the area. Two dacoits were also killed in the exchange.
The police successfully managed to free the hostages. However, it was not clear how dacoits were involved in the incident and whether other dacoits managed to escape from the scene or not.
