Ban imposed on crow selling

Wildlife Protection Department has initiated a crackdown against crow sellers.

It is for the first time that the department has decided to implement Section 15 of the Wildlife Protection Act which prohibits the sale and purchase of wild animals. An action against wild birds and animals trade could not be initiated earlier because of two contradictory sections in the Wildlife Protection Act. While Section 15 prohibits the sale and purchase of wild animals and bird, Section 9 allows it. However, the recent crackdown by the department is being seen as a step which will ensure the protection of wild animals.

District Wildlife Officer Rai Zahid Ali said, “We have started to fine those people who are involved in sale and purchase of wild animals and birds, especially crows. Recently, we fined Rs 10,000 to man named Mukhtar for selling crows.”
