Lawyers in Quetta and other parts of Balochistan boycotted court proceedings on Tuesday over the authorities’ failure to recover former advocate general Salahuddin Mengal, who was abducted in Quetta in April.
Mengal was kidnapped on April 3 on Quetta’s Sariab Road. He was on his way home from the Balochistan High Court when unidentified armed men intercepted his vehicle and kidnapped him.
The lawyers practicing in Quetta, Mastung, Khuzdar, Kalat and others areas of Balochistan have been protesting against the kidnapping during the past month and a half.
Meanwhile, the Balochistan Bar Association (BBA) announced that lawyers would boycott court proceedings from May 21 to May 24 in the southwestern province to register their protest against Mengal’s abduction.
BBA General Secretary Ataullah Lango in a statement said the lawyers’ protests would intensify if Mengal was not recovered soon.
Another lawyers’ body threatened the provincial government of countywide protests if Mengal was not recovered.
