11 killed as violence linger on in metropolis

Glimpses of pre-May 11 general elections situation were witnessed on Tuesday when fresh spate of violence erupted in the metropolis as 11 people were killed in firing incidents in different areas.
According to details, some unidentified miscreants lobbed a cracker at a shop near the residence of Siraj Lala, a local leader of Awami National Party (ANP) in Landhi Hospital Chowrangi. The cracker blast wounded three people.
In separate incidents of violence, a man named Ashiq was killed near Banaras Bridge, Hussain and Muhammed Jamal in Orangi Town and a man identified as Yaqub was gunned down near Denso Hall.
Further, an unknown youth was shot dead in Landhi 36-B area while another man named Mehtab was killed near Malir-15 P-1 bus stop.
Similarly, a 40-year man Nasir Muhammed was shot dead near Airport Signal. In addition, Arshad was gunned down in Old Golimar and some unidentified miscreants also killed a youth identified as Junaid, in front of Abbasi Shaheed Hospital in Nazimabad.
Meanwhile, the area near Meteorological Department in Gulistan-e-Jauhar reached a flashpoint after a local office-bearer of a political party Qasim Chandio was killed here. Later, police and rangers personnel managed to bring the volatile situation under control. SHO Sahchal Saqib Goga was also injured in the unrest after he grappled with rioters.
Moreover, police and the rangers arrested four suspected people and recovered firearms from their possession.
