President Asif Ali Zardari has said that more than anything else, it was international factors that were responsible for the PPP’s defeat in the elections.

Zardari said this while addressing party’s leadership from Punjab at Bilawal House in Baharia Town Lahore on Monday, his first after the PPP’s humiliating defeat in May 11 elections.

It was a big gathering of PPP jialas, all interested to know what President Zardari had in his mind and what his next was move in wake of the elections.

Over 400 party ticket-holders and office-bearers from Punjab were present. It was here in the largest province where the PPP received huge battering, getting totally wiped out from Punjab with most of its top ranking leaders failing to return to power.

Former prime ministers Yousaf Raza Gilani and Raja Pervez Asharf, Manzoor Wattoo, Aitzaz Ahsan, Ahmad Mukhtar, Samina Ghurki and other party stalwarts were seen occupying front rows.

Zardari said the party’s poor showing in the elections was per a “script” and pre-planned strategy. “It was a hostile judiciary coupled with international conspiracies that led to defeat of the party,” he alleged.

He said “security concerns, issues like load shedding and legal constraints on him let us down”.

“But it was less of our defeat and more of a victory for a special mindset,” he emphasised.

Zardari said some forces did not like the increasing presence of Pakistan in the region. “In fact it was a combination of local and international factors that caused our defeat.”

He added that elections had been thoroughly rigged.

Zardari asked party leaders and workers not to feel let down. “By the year end, I will be in politics along with my children. I am not going to quit Punjab. I will go to each and every constituency to revitalise the party,” he assured.

“Once my children will be in the field, yours will follow suit. In this way, we will hand over the party to our next generation,” president said.

Zardari assured the participants that the PPP would play the role of an effective opposition in the coming days.

“I think jialas did not like my policy of reconciliation. As such, I will not congratulate the Sharifs until they permit me to do so.”

He said he built the house in Lahore with clear intention that he would focus on Punjab.

Speaking on the occasion, other PPP leaders termed load shedding as the bane of party’s failure besides other factors. They also blamed “international factors” responsible for the party’s defeat.

“It is Pak-Iran cooperation that was not liked by certain forces,” they contended.

The president constituted a committee under the supervision of Aitzaz Ahsan to probe into the allegations of rigging.

A party leader said the defeat in the elections was due to a gap between top party leadership and workers, which was not the case when people like Naheed Khan were active in the party.

According to some insiders, the president did not like the mention of Naheed Khan’s name and left the venue.

    • Benazir murder case is waiting for his presidential amnesty to expire, lets see if his bomb proof toilets can protect him from the independent courts.

  1. Yes, it was scripted but by non other than Zardari himself and his casual, non serious (YRG and Raja as PM are two examples) and corrupt ways of governance. He wasted a once in life time chance and I am of strong belief that PPP and Zardari (i/n his children) are two different things and cannot go together.

  2. The US Senate in hearing on money laundering had a section on Zardari. The Surrey mansion is still on sale for 7.5 million pounds. The Rs 500 crore Lahore Bilawal House. These are just a few tiny examples. How more innocent can you get.

    • Please shed more sunlight on this Moron's corruption. Please provide the link to the Senate hearing by Senator Levin. Please put all this together and mail it to the Supreme court CJ as well as all other justices on the bench.
Unless the corruption of the rulers is exposed, the instability of not only Pakistan, but the entire region will only exacerbate with adverse consequences.
Can Pro Bono Publico suggest how lawsuits can be filed in countries where all Pakistani political leaders money is stashed?

      • But there are books also on Sharif corruption written by international journalists. It is also better to read them.

  3. Script for PPP's defeat was written by none other than AZ, Faryal Talpur, Owaiz Tappi, Asim, Fazalulah Pechuha, Salman Faruqi etc and nobody else .

  4. Here we go again! The only thing missing was that it was a 'CIA-Zionist' conspiracy against the glorious leadership of Asif Zadari.

Heard it all before. Utter rubbish!

If anything, the CIA would rather have the 'elected' and very buyable Asif Zardari and his rent-a-rabble cronies in the PPP with their willingness to let the US do anything and everything to Pakistan, still in control.

No leadership in Pakistan's history has done more to further the ends of Pakistan's enemies then Zardari. Mr 10% sold us out countless times and now seems shocked that Pakistanis have turned their backs on his shameful party.

This PPP under Zardari is nothing like the one ZAB built and BB led. It is a disgrace!

  5. All comments are antagonistic. Rise and fall are part of the political game. You guys write comments for the sake of hate and represent a true picture of our punjabi culture.

    • Jaisa karna waisa bharna. I know "Facts" you voted for PPP but I am so delighted to let you know that your party is a big zero, you lost buddy. Hopefully jiyalas like you will learn some lesson. IF you dont like Punjab, stay out of it please

      • Buddy u will learn a lesson from Sharif corruption in next five years. It will be a reminder to people like u who forgot Himalyian corruption of Sharif family in their last two governments.

  6. this corrupt thug and a criminal along with other looters blame others instead of seeing his filthy money filled pocket.this looter still wants to comeback by using his children to continue the legacy of corruption ,mafia rule and lawlessness.
Its not ur dynasty rule thats respected zardari,

  7. WOW,Zardari must really believe that the people of Pakistan are really dumb for him to stand there and lie thru his teeth and right in their faces.Face it Zardari, you lost because of you and everyone that supported you to run,I mean ruin the country. We know you won't resign because you know all too well that the minute you resign, you will be thrown in jail along with your hood rats for a long long long time because that immunity you enjoy so much will no longer be protecting you.GOD I hope you burn in hell but better yet hang from the pole right outside the home you built with Pakistani peoples money.

  8. Lol!.. Funny Pakistanis.. they say PPP got defeated for misdeeds and corruption. I want to ask you then why NS won with huge margin? Was he so much clean? Why Musharraff and IK got defeated very badly? they are also so corrupt?

  9. Yes just like that as PPP was given top seat in 2008 election and he was elected as President for nothing but surely as per script. He had taken this choice at that time and now his term has been terminated along with lots of failure accounted in Zardari's account.
He could surely pleased few groups in his time but couldn't please his nation even for a month in five years.Even BSIP programs beneficiaries didn't come out to vote for PPP.This was also written in the script?

  10. Yes, Mr President, your ascending to power was due to international factors orchestrated through NRO. But PPP's defeat is due to knowing the reality by people that it was being run by merely a lot of incompetent people under a thug (as said by the Punjab CM "A Band of Ali Baba & Chalis Chor"). Sit and scrutinize the whole 5 years of your bad governance day by day you will find the reason behind your defeat. If you could not find then the answer is – corruption, unemployment, law and order situation, load shedding and nepotism. And behold! your can only hand over to your children your family business as the time has changed . It is not very bad to construct castles in the air as very soon you will only be daydreaming of ruling over Punjab.
