Pakistan will have to feed more than 200 million people in 2015 and wheat demand by the time is expected to be 29.06 million ton. This was stated by Prof. Dr Iqrar Ahmad Khan, Vice Chancellor University of Agriculture Faisalabad (UAF), while addressing a reception for newly elected members of National and Provincial Assemblies from district Faisalabad on Saturday night. Dr Iqrar said the government should make tangible steps to ensure timely provision of irrigation water, seeds, fertilizers and other inputs, so that farmers could be able to produce wheat in according to needs. He emphasized to put food security on top of the government agenda if it was determined to steering the country out of the energy crisis. He was of the view that without increasing investment in the fields of agriculture, science & technology and livestock, fruits of prosperity could not be harvested at national level. MNA Rana Muhammad Afzal Khan said that his party would double the education budget and he along with his colleagues would help the university to meet its future endeavors. Former provincial minister for agriculture Malik Ahmad Ali Aulakh and MPA Mian Rafiq also spoke on the occasion.
