Illegal constructions in the commercial and residential areas of Chaklala and Rawalpindi Cantonments continue unchecked, causing loss of millions of rupees to the boards in terms of commercialization fee and fines.
The concerned authorities have turned a blind eye towards the situation, while the higher officials are ignorant of it, being presented erroneous reports that no problems exist.
It was learnt that inexperienced people have been fired as Building Inspectors, and at some places these duties were being performed by Grade-4 and 5 officials. These people are not qualified to solve the issue of illegal constructions.
In Jhanda Cheechi, Jhelum Road, Tahli Mohri, Sir Syed Chowk, Mareer Hassan, Dhok Charagh Din and other places in Chaklala Cantt., commercial constructions on residential building plans, and unapproved commercial and residential constructions are in abundance. The case is the same in Range Road, Tench Bhata, Peoples Colony, Kamalabad, Miserial Road, Peshawar Road areas in Rawalpindi Cantt.
Cantt. board officials said that an operation against these illegal constructions was conducted daily and negligent officials were also duly reprimanded.
