US stance on drones challenge for new rulers: Hasan

Jamaat-e-Islami chief Munawar Hasan on Sunday said that Washington’s statement to continue drone attacks was a challenge for the newly-elected rulers.
In a statement, he said that the protection of the life of the citizens was the foremost responsibility of the rulers whereas the killing of innocent tribal people in the name of al Qaeda and Taliban only proved the helplessness of the Pakistani government and the armed forces.
Hasan said the US had been continuously targeting the tribal areas and the drone attacks were making a mockery of Pakistan’s independence and sovereignty.
He said if the newly elected rulers also followed in the footsteps of Musharraf and Zardari, they would face the wrath of the people.
The JI chief urged Nawaz Sharif to pick up courage and adopt a bold stance in accordance with the nation’s aspirations making it clear to the US that drone attacks won’t be tolerated.
He said the newly-elected rulers would have to get out of the US pressure for safeguarding the country’s solidarity and integrity and to restore its image in the comity of the nations.
He said that as the nation had expressed its confidence in Nawaz, he too should throw off the yoke of US slavery and refuse to side with the US and NATO. He said the violation of Pakistan’s territorial frontiers by the drones was against international law. The US, he said, was actually at war with Islam and the Muslims as it was bracketing the Muslims with terrorism and subversion.
The JI chief said that peace and stability were essential for national development and progress, adding that as long as terrorism and US aggression continued, the country could not progress.
Hasan also stressed upon security institutions and agencies to give up their game in order to overcome target killings and lawlessness in Karachi. The MQM, he said, was holding the port city a hostage and had seized control through coercion and rigging.
