Encroachments on pedestrians and motorists’ rights

Encroachments by street vendors and shopkeepers in various areas including Aabpara, Melody, Peshawar More, Karachi Company and other places had not been cleared till Sunday.

These encroachments, situated on main roads, streets and footpaths in different areas of the capital are on the rise, creating problems for pedestrians and motorists alike.

The residents also complained of growing encroachments in the market causing inconvenience for the pedestrian and motorists. The public appealed to the concerned authorities to remove these encroachments which are a nuisance for people visiting the market, as pedestrians are forced to walk in the middle of the road and vehicular traffic is also affected.

“The authorities have claimed to launch anti-encroachment drives but encroachments reappear soon after the operation,” said sector G-9 resident Mashkoor Ali.

The Capital Development Authority (CDA)’s inefficiency was obvious from the fact that shopkeepers in the markets of Peshawar More, Karachi Company, Aabpara, Faizabad, and Bhara Kahu have permanently occupied footpaths in front of their shops without any fear, Ali added.

Gulzar Ali who was visiting Aabpara market for shopping said that the CDA is responsible for removing encroachments from footpaths and roads but it has failed to do so.

Aabpara market residents also complained about growing encroachments in the market. They appealed to the concerned authorities to ease the pains of pedestrians and motorists as soon as possible.

A CDA official said that the authority regularly launched anti-encroachment drives towards this end.
