Establishment won, people lost elections: JI chief

Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Ameer Syed Munawar Hasan has termed the elections a contest between the people and the establishment which the later had won. He dissuaded the masses from hoping for a change.

Addressing the Friday congregation at Mansoora, he said the newly-elected government should work out a way to end bloodshed in the name of war on terror.

Munawwar claimed that the establishment had ‘facilitated’ MQM for an electoral victory and the elections in Karachi and Hyderabad had not been fair. He alleged that polling stations were captured by force and the polling material including ballot papers were seized. Polling could not be started till mid day but despite that, at the end of the day, as much as two lakh ballot papers were recovered from the ballot papers. He pointed out that the Supreme Court’s orders for verification of electoral lists under the army’s supervision and fresh delimitation of the constituencies had not been implemented and the people of Karachi were facing its fall out.

The JI leader said Pakistan Muslim League – Nawaz (PML-N) chief Nawaz Sharif should have supported the Kashmiris than extending a friendly hand towards India. He said he could not understand why Nawaz was in a hurry to extend relations with India.
