SC refers cases of 136 new missing persons to inquiry commission

The Supreme Court (SC) has referred cases of 136 new missing persons to the commission on missing persons for inquiry.

The court directed the commission to review the new cases, the list of which was provided by the Defence of Human Rights (DHR), evolve its report and send it to the SC registrar.

A three-member SC bench – chaired Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry – took up DHR Chairwoman Aamna Janjua’s petition for hearing on Thursday.

The CJP said, “You have brought new cases… 136 cases are new. If you have lodged an FIR in these cases and if the file has been provided to the commission, it will work better than we do.”

Aamna said the commission’s performance was not impressive.

The CJP remarked, “We will tell them to make more headway in this respect.”

Later, it disposed of the petition.

Meanwhile, the SC has sought a report from the commission about the presence of Masood Janjua, Aamna’s husband, at CampHamza saying it had new evidence in that connection.

The court directed the commission to review the new evidence with, work out a report and send it to the court.

Aamna had informed the court about availability of new evidence with respect to the presence of Masood at CampHamza.
