President Islamabad Region Cricket Association Shakil Shaikh said Thursday that the election of Chairman Pakistan Cricket Board, Chaudhry Mohammad Zaka Ashraf, was transparent and in line with provisions of the newly-promulgated PCB Constitution, which was approved in consultation with the ICC. As a result of it, Pakistan became compliant to the ICC requirements.
“Ch M Zaka Ahraf’s election as Chairman PCB on May 8 for four years was in line with the provisions of the PCB Constitution,” said Shakil Shaikh, who is also member of the PCB Governing Board and participated in the democratic process to elect PCB Chairman.
Shakil Shaikh expressed his thanks to the ICC and the government of Pakistan for giving this great cricketing nation a comprehensive document in the shape of constitution which is at par with international standards.
Shaikh took serious note of hue and cry being created by some disgruntled, frustrated elements over the democratically-elected Chairman PCB. “It is a historic step that the PCB Governing Board has elected Ch M Zaka Ashraf as Chairman PCB by and it would go a long way for promotion of cricket.”
He said some mischief-mongers are making noises for their own vested interest. “These elements do not want democratic process to take place in their own regions, as they have been enjoying their unconstitutionally-lingered expired tenure as office-bearers of their respective regions on one or the other pretext. “People in their own regions are creating voices against their unconstitutional rule,” said President RCA Islamabad.
In view of the situation, some regional heads, who are trying to continue as regional office-bearers beyond their constitutional tenure, are trying to mislead the honourable courts. He advised such elements to avoid entering into legal battle against the democratic process, which is taking place with the advent of the PCB constitution. He maintained that the shift from nominated Chairman to elected Chairman PCB would auger well for Pakistan cricket under the dynamic leadership of Ch M Zaka Ashraf.
Shaikh also hailed dedicated and devoted services Chairman PCB Ch Zaka Ashraf has rendered to bring international cricket back to Pakistan. “Ch Zaka Ashraf has taken multiple steps to steer Pakistan cricket, introduce democratic norms to run cricket, upgrade and uplift cricket infrastructure, jack up financial health of the board, maintain good relations with international cricket fraternity, and do whatever is possible with the involvement of all the stakeholders,” said Shakil Shaikh. He foresees prosperous and glorious future of Pakistan cricket under the able leadership of Chairman Ch Zaka Ashraf and hoped that all the stakeholders would extend unflinching and unwavering support to him in his endeavour to take Pakistan cricket to new heights.
