The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) is all set to present a long and short term action plan to the new government for strengthen anti-corruption efforts through preventive methods.

NAB Spokesman Ramzan Sajid said that the bureau had vigorously pursued anti-corruption efforts and would continue to do so with the new government.

He said that NAB was determined to follow the new government’s zero tolerance policy on corruption, and would wholeheartedly promote meritocracy for good governance.

He said that the NAB was actively pursuing an expansion plan and had decided to set up three new regions for eradicating corruption and improving monitoring across the country.

“This expansion is part of the programme to reach out on a district level and be more responsive to the general public’s complaints,” he said.

He added that the new regions would be established in Multan, Sukkur and Gilgit-Baltistan according to the Director Generals (DG)’s conference’s decision.

He added that the DGs’ conference had also agreed that the Bureau would have its own police force for effective security and field operations.

Moreover, the NAB had already approached the caretaker prime minister for getting its Economic Crime Wing and Anti Corruption Wing back from the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA).

Replying to a question, he said that the NAB Chairman’s appointment was made according to a statutory framework that could not be violated by an exercise of discretionary powers.

“The NAB is a state institution and not a government department,” he commented.
