A day after seeking the permission from the special TADA court here to surrender directly in front of the jail authorities instead of court, Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt on Wednesday withdrew his application without assigning any reason. Dutt will now surrender on Thursday in front of the court here. In an application moved on Tuesday, Dutt has sought the permission to surrender in Yerawada jail in Pune citing threat to his life from fundamentalist groups, if he surrenders in Mumbai. The court had asked CBI to reply on the actor’s application and was to take decision on Wednesday.
Actor’s lawyer Subhash Yadav on Wednesday informed the court that the actor wants to withdraw his application, without assigning any particular reason. The court also did not ask the reason and permitted the actor to withdraw his application.
Meanwhile, the Arthur Road Jail has received an anonymous letter threatening the actor’s life. Though the content of the letter was not confirmed by police authorities, the letter is said to be sent three days ago at the prison.
Per practice, the under trials are kept in Arthur Road Jail and the convicts are kept in jails outside. Dutt is likely to be sent to Yerawada Jail in Pune. In February, the apex court sentenced Dutt to five years of jail term jail term under the Arms Act for illegal possession of weapons.
