Police have registered an FIR against newspaper editors and publishers for publishing the claim of a banned outfit, Lashkar-e-Jhangvi, about the suicide attack on the Balochistan IG.

The case was registered on the complaint by the station house office of the Quetta Police Station. The charges included contempt of court as the provincial high court had barred newspapers and other media organisations from publishing and telecasting statements/claims of banned outfits.

The media took a common stand that its members were receiving threats from the banned outfits and no institution of the country was capable of defending the lives of newsmen, including editors and publishers especially when such banned groups were targeting the supreme commander of the police force of Balochistan.

The media organisations, including APNS, CPNE and PFUJ and human rights organisations are expected to take a common stand on the issue once again.
