The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has nominated former Punjab law minister Rana Sanaullah for the Punjab governor’s slot after Makhdoom Ahmed Mahmud resigned the other day from his office.
According to sources, the PML-N leadership met to discuss the names for the post.
They said Sanaullah was reading to resign from his Punjab Assembly seat to become the governor.
Earlier, former governor Ahmed Mahmud said, “I have forwarded my resignation to President Asif Ali Zardari. I hope it will be accepted.”
The Pakistan People’s Party lost to the PML-N in the province in May 11 general elections. Accepting the results, the PPP-nominated governor tendered his resignation, saying he quit as the Punjab governor on moral grounds.
To a question, he said it was the right of the new government to nominate its candidate for the post.
